Trust In Love – James Gallagher

The Wizard’s Tears

In a distant time when people still believed,
in an ancient place where always nature thrived,
there lived a wondrous wizard often who would weave
the Forces of the Four and against evil he strived.
And long night after night against the phasing moon
He would be seen conjuring a potion or a spell.
There often could be heard a mystic magic tune
Which most sweetened every ear on to which it fell.

But no one ever knew just why he hid his fears
And how surprised they were to see the wizard’s tears.

Demons, plagues and famines the mighty wizard warred
Keeping every village safe and the people all secure.
One day something happened to dull his magic sword.
He came to see a maiden, so fair and so demure
That he himself was stricken by a love so deep
that like youth, enraptured, his heart o’er took his mind,
love left him at the precipice just about to leap
and his power to best decide he just couldn’t find.

But no one ever knew just why he hid his fears
And how surprised they were to see the wizard’s tears.

He faced a greater challenge e’er he had before
to struggle with his own great heart, so aflame with love.
So, to keep his mind and powers fixed upon his chore,
to protect the land and the people take care of,
when beat to beat his heart called for the maiden so,
the dangers to the land, he knew, always would be there.
He knew that for the people’s sake on which road to go.
So, cast did he a strange, strange spell upon the maiden fair.

But no one ever knew just why he hid his fears
And how surprised they were to see the wizard’s tears.

The maiden fair was ne’er again ever to be found
though forest deep and mountain high were all searched in vain.
Oft the wizard, then it seemed, was by silence bound,
wandering sunset and dawn in lone and silent pain.
And when they asked him, the wizard did respond,
“Seek you now the maiden where best your heart takes flight,
where happiness and joy have made a lasting bond.
She’s for all to be with now, in the sunrise and twilight.”

But no one ever knew just why he hid his fears
And how surprised they were to see the wizard’s tears.
